Mythos Zell am See

The interactive permanent exhibition “Mythos Zell am See” explores the history, art, and culture of the town and its region, from the first human settlements to the present day. Valuable objects and exciting discovery stations captivate visitors of all ages. Among the most significant exhibits is a nearly perfectly preserved, approximately 3,000-year-old bronze sword, discovered by children while fishing on the banks of the Salzach River. You can also admire artifacts from the bottom of Lake Zell, romantic paintings, and many other treasures. A true crowd favorite is the virtual fishing game on the third floor of the tower.

SETTLEMENT SPACE

What valuable game brought the first humans to the area around Lake Zell thousands of years ago? Find out in the Settlement Space! Explore the interactive discovery stations and marvel at precious artifacts from bygone days.

CULTURE LAB

Around Lake Zell, there are two fascinating customs that are part of the intangible UNESCO cultural heritage: Trestern and Ranggeln. Let yourself be captivated by the mystical dance of the Tresterer and experience the archaic contest of strength in Ranggeln.

MEETING POINT

Did you know that the railway was the beginning of Zell’s tourism boom? The interactive inn table at the Meeting Point will show you how it all worked. You will also learn about the famous personalities who met at Lake Zell and the luxurious hotels they stayed in.

TREASURE CHAMBER

Admire the wild and romantic paintings of Lake Zell and its majestic mountain backdrop. Our terrain model highlights the perspectives that the artists used for their paintings. Among the most valuable exhibits are originals by the renowned graphic artist Alfred Kubin.

INVENTORS’ WORKSHOP

The Inventors’ Workshop showcases technology, design, and craftsmanship from the Pinzgau region. The themes and exhibits change regularly, thanks to all those innovative thinkers with their heads in the clouds and their sights set far beyond the valley.

LAKE ROOM

The Lake Room is dedicated to the element that most defines Zell am See: Lake Zell. Admire the largest pike and the largest zander ever caught in the lake, and marvel at historical artifacts discovered by divers in the lake. Try your hand at our fishing game! Perhaps you, too, will find treasures at the bottom of the lake?

Forum Vogtturm

The ForumVogtturm is the most representative room in the tower. In the Middle Ages it was used for spying out the surroundings, later it was used for residential purposes. The large number of window niches with brick-built benches is unique in the province of Salzburg. Fascinating works of art by Zell artist Richard Hirschbäck (1937-2007) are currently on display.
